Farewell Dinner with Ex-colleague at Crystal Jade (La Mian Xiao Long Bao)

It was a Tuesday (30 July 2013) and Xiang Bao organized a farewell dinner together with his “god-sister” as she will be leaving company and going oversea to be with her hubby. Since we had eaten over at Crystal Jade located at Holland Village branch before, we decided to have our farewell dinner at this place.

As we were early and the restaurant was not opened for business (Buffet section), we had to wait for them to start and go up to have our dinner. There were many others who were also waiting to have their dinner fix over at this place too and this was even when we had reserved our tables in advance.

When the restaurant started to open for business, we were guided to our table without much delay and the staff were quick to handle the rest of the customers to their tables. Within a few minutes, the whole restaurant at level 2 which was allocated for the steamboat buffet was full of customers. We did not waste our time and started to order our dishes during these time.

Though I would say the space between each tables were quite near to each other and if the restaurant were full house, it would be quite noisy and crowded with not much space to move around as the staff were quite busy serving and clearing up empty plates. If the table you were seated at where at one hidden corner, you would have some problem in getting the attention of the staff to answer to your request and etc.

Dinning out with Rachel and her Sisters

Was out windows shopping on Sunday (28 July 2013) and Rachel suggested to have an early dinner together with her sisters over at 313 Somerset. As both of us were tired from the walking, we went over there to wait for them to arrive before deciding what to have for dinner.

After meeting up with them, we walked around the basement area looking for a place for our dinner fix when we passed Fish and Co restaurant which was previously called F.I.S.H restaurant (Also under Fish and Co) which I had given a very bad reviewed about it in my past blog post.

Anyway, since it was a new restaurant (Considering in 313 Somerset), we decided to have our dinner at this restaurant instead as Fish and Co should be reliable and the standard should be much better as I had eaten in other branch without any issue.

The place as more spaciously set up with enough walking space between each table while standard setup of Fish and Co with Fish shape wooden base for each customer. Overall feel of this design and layout was nice and comfortable for chilling out and gathering with friends. Large group of people can actually join up the tables to allow large group dinning too. The staff were friendly and was attentive to customer’s request without much waiting but one thing to note was that there were not much customers having their meal at this restaurant so I am not sure if the service standard will drop when the restaurant were full of customers.

As all of us were quite hungry as it was late, we ordered a few dishes after looking through the menu and started relaxing and chatting up with each other. The food were served after waiting for around 15 minutes which were still acceptable for us.

Soup of the Day: Cream of vegetables complimentary in the set meal order of additional $5.50++ with a glass of drink

The soup was added with some stuff which seems to be like fish floss while there were bits of vegetables like carrots and potato in it. Overall taste of this starter was quite good (Or maybe we were hungry) though the pepper taste was a bit over powering.

Top up Scallops (5 pieces) @ $5.95++

The scallops was added with tomatoes sauce and cheese which was being baked till the cheese melted. As a cheese lovers, I would preferred they add in more cheese on the scallop but overall taste was still great as you will still be able to taste the juicy part of the scallop as the tomatoes sauce protected the scallop from being too dry from the baking process.

Top up Grilled Giant Squid @ $6.95++

One thing to say about the squid was that it was big (Too big that we were unable to finish it at the end) and it was super oily due to the chili oil sauce being added onto it. The squid was not too hard with those QQ feeling while biting onto it in your mouth. I would not order this dish again if I had a choice due to the oiliness which I cannot stand.

Grilled Peri Peri Chicken with Sword Fish Collar @ $20.95++

The whole of this dish was placed into a big plate (just like seafood platter for two type) and the chicken were added with their peri peri sauce which was very very oily. The whole dish comes with french fries and lots of coleslaw while the sword fish collar was actually a very hard piece of stuff.

I am not sure if it should be that hard but I do not really like it while the sauce for the chicken was too oily that I cannot stand it and took another photo of the after meal look of it.

Grilled Peri Peri Chicken with Arctic Fish @ $19.95++

This dish comes with the same peri peri chicken plus a piece of arctic fish which comes with mashed potato and Fish and Co special rice. As per previous dish, the peri peri chicken was very oily and I think the mashed potato and rice had been mixed with the oil which lucky never really destroyed the overall taste of the mashed potato but rice was not so great after mixing it (We just ate those not mixed with the rice). The fish to me was quite normal or maybe I am not very good in eating fish so was not able to tell if it was fresh or not. The sauce on top of the fish was actually causing the crispy fish to being quite soft which I think they should separate it in future so people will be able to enjoy the crispness of the fish.

The meal though was not as good as we had expected it to be but the company was great while the place was good for gathering when not much people were dinning there (Do not like those coffeeshop type of noisiness).

We called it a day and went home after that.

Poor Service Level at Ichiban Boshi (CentrePoint)

Rachel and her sisters had organized a pre Chinese New Year gathering cum Lo Hei session on Wednesday (22 January 2014) night together with one of their couple friends (Justin and Daphne). All of us decided to meet directly over at the planned restaurant called Ichiban Boshi over at CentrePoint Branch as we kind of loves Japanese food so decided to have our first Lo Hei there.

There were quite a lot of customer having their meals there too but did not over crowded the restaurant (No queuing required when we were there). There were different seating mainly able to cater up to around 6 to 7 people which also had some sushi bar counter seating (If the group had more than 6 people, they should be combining tables to cater for these group of people.)

Birthday Celebration for Ex-Colleague

One of our ex-colleague’s birthday is around the corner and her boyfriend (Who was in the same group of friends) organized a dinner cum drinking celebration as a get together. The date was decided to be on Friday (26 July 2013) right after our work and since it was a Friday, we get to stay out late as all of us do not need to work on Saturday.

We all meet up over at City Hall MRT before walking over to “The Connoisseur Concerto (TCC)” Beach Center Branch as they mentioned had lesser crowd so we can relax and enjoy our meal in a quiet environment. As most of us were TCC members and whenever any of our birthday was on that month, we will get 50% off our total bills and our birthday girl was also a member too.

The restaurant was true enough to be quite comfortable without many people having their meals there (The place was quite a far walking distance too) as we saw only 2 groups of diners there. The environment was nice too with a few sofa seats and the space between each tables where nicely apart so you will not feel uncomfortable with other people too near to you.

Seafood Lunch Across the Causeway

Rachel had planned to go back Malaysia on Saturday (20 July 2013) so I went together with her back to stay over for 1 night. The traffic at custom were always so slow which caused a long queue.

Anyway, Rachel’s mother was good enough to come fetch us when we reached Malaysia to go back to their house. We just put our stuff and without much delay, the whole family started to go for lunch to celebrate Rachel’s younger sister’s birthday. Her parents decided to go for a seafood lunch at one of the popular location in Malaysia. Rachel’s father said a lot of Singaporean will come all the way there to have their seafood fix due to freshness and “cheap” (Due to exchanged rates).

The restaurant was seems to be quite old with a big open air sandy “car park” covered (Take care as there were quite a lot of big holes here and there). The restaurant was located just by the sea using woods to hold them together. There were quite a lot of rubbish around the place as they were washed up by the sea along the beach. Inside the restaurant which was an open air concept using natural sea breeze and electric fan to keep the place cooling.

Dinner at Seoul Garden Clementi

It had been a long time since I had buffet dinner with the guys so we decided to meet up at Clementi Mall to have dinner on Saturday (13 July 2013) at Seoul Garden which was a newly opened restaurant at Clementi area.

The place looks clean with only a few dishes of cooked food were placed on the side of the dining area unlike the rest of the branch which place all raw and cooked food at the side of the restaurant for customer to get their own food themselves.

Company Dinner and Dance

Having joined my current company for less than 1 year, I was able to attend the company dinner and dance celebration on Friday (12 July 2013). We were given early release from work at 3pm for us to go back home to change or to prepare ourselves for the dinner and dance. This was not like the one which I used to have from my ex-company (Christmas Party was being treated like Dinner and Dance there) where we need to become part of the dancer and etc for the entertainment which I really hate it as it was not taking part willingly type while dinner was always a buffet style instead of banquet dinner which most of the bigger companies will do.

Anyway, we were told to reached Carlton Hotel ballroom at 7pm where the dinner and dance will be hosted. The ballroom was located at level 2 and one can either take the lift or walk up the stairs. Finding our ballroom was not hard as there were big signboard of our company event along the walkway
