Dinning out with Rachel and her Sisters

Was out windows shopping on Sunday (28 July 2013) and Rachel suggested to have an early dinner together with her sisters over at 313 Somerset. As both of us were tired from the walking, we went over there to wait for them to arrive before deciding what to have for dinner.

After meeting up with them, we walked around the basement area looking for a place for our dinner fix when we passed Fish and Co restaurant which was previously called F.I.S.H restaurant (Also under Fish and Co) which I had given a very bad reviewed about it in my past blog post.

Anyway, since it was a new restaurant (Considering in 313 Somerset), we decided to have our dinner at this restaurant instead as Fish and Co should be reliable and the standard should be much better as I had eaten in other branch without any issue.

The place as more spaciously set up with enough walking space between each table while standard setup of Fish and Co with Fish shape wooden base for each customer. Overall feel of this design and layout was nice and comfortable for chilling out and gathering with friends. Large group of people can actually join up the tables to allow large group dinning too. The staff were friendly and was attentive to customer’s request without much waiting but one thing to note was that there were not much customers having their meal at this restaurant so I am not sure if the service standard will drop when the restaurant were full of customers.

As all of us were quite hungry as it was late, we ordered a few dishes after looking through the menu and started relaxing and chatting up with each other. The food were served after waiting for around 15 minutes which were still acceptable for us.

Soup of the Day: Cream of vegetables complimentary in the set meal order of additional $5.50++ with a glass of drink

The soup was added with some stuff which seems to be like fish floss while there were bits of vegetables like carrots and potato in it. Overall taste of this starter was quite good (Or maybe we were hungry) though the pepper taste was a bit over powering.

Top up Scallops (5 pieces) @ $5.95++

The scallops was added with tomatoes sauce and cheese which was being baked till the cheese melted. As a cheese lovers, I would preferred they add in more cheese on the scallop but overall taste was still great as you will still be able to taste the juicy part of the scallop as the tomatoes sauce protected the scallop from being too dry from the baking process.

Top up Grilled Giant Squid @ $6.95++

One thing to say about the squid was that it was big (Too big that we were unable to finish it at the end) and it was super oily due to the chili oil sauce being added onto it. The squid was not too hard with those QQ feeling while biting onto it in your mouth. I would not order this dish again if I had a choice due to the oiliness which I cannot stand.

Grilled Peri Peri Chicken with Sword Fish Collar @ $20.95++

The whole of this dish was placed into a big plate (just like seafood platter for two type) and the chicken were added with their peri peri sauce which was very very oily. The whole dish comes with french fries and lots of coleslaw while the sword fish collar was actually a very hard piece of stuff.

I am not sure if it should be that hard but I do not really like it while the sauce for the chicken was too oily that I cannot stand it and took another photo of the after meal look of it.

Grilled Peri Peri Chicken with Arctic Fish @ $19.95++

This dish comes with the same peri peri chicken plus a piece of arctic fish which comes with mashed potato and Fish and Co special rice. As per previous dish, the peri peri chicken was very oily and I think the mashed potato and rice had been mixed with the oil which lucky never really destroyed the overall taste of the mashed potato but rice was not so great after mixing it (We just ate those not mixed with the rice). The fish to me was quite normal or maybe I am not very good in eating fish so was not able to tell if it was fresh or not. The sauce on top of the fish was actually causing the crispy fish to being quite soft which I think they should separate it in future so people will be able to enjoy the crispness of the fish.

The meal though was not as good as we had expected it to be but the company was great while the place was good for gathering when not much people were dinning there (Do not like those coffeeshop type of noisiness).

We called it a day and went home after that.

Seafood Lunch Across the Causeway

Rachel had planned to go back Malaysia on Saturday (20 July 2013) so I went together with her back to stay over for 1 night. The traffic at custom were always so slow which caused a long queue.

Anyway, Rachel’s mother was good enough to come fetch us when we reached Malaysia to go back to their house. We just put our stuff and without much delay, the whole family started to go for lunch to celebrate Rachel’s younger sister’s birthday. Her parents decided to go for a seafood lunch at one of the popular location in Malaysia. Rachel’s father said a lot of Singaporean will come all the way there to have their seafood fix due to freshness and “cheap” (Due to exchanged rates).

The restaurant was seems to be quite old with a big open air sandy “car park” covered (Take care as there were quite a lot of big holes here and there). The restaurant was located just by the sea using woods to hold them together. There were quite a lot of rubbish around the place as they were washed up by the sea along the beach. Inside the restaurant which was an open air concept using natural sea breeze and electric fan to keep the place cooling.

Neighbourhood Zi Char Stall (You Le Tian Seafood Restaurant) @ Jurong West Street 41

Once a while, my family will go out to nearby coffeeshop to dine at the Zi Char stall nearby my house. This was just one of the Saturday (8 June 2013) which we went out for dinner instead of cooking at home. There were a few Zi Char stall nearby my area due to the many coffeeshop around these places (Around 7 coffeeshop walking distance from my block.

My family decided to dine over at a Zi Char stall called “You Le Tian Seafood Restaurant” (有樂天海鲜). When we reached the place, we were able to find a table without any waiting as these Zi Char stall will always “Reserved” some tables for people who dine at their stall. In terms of cleanliness of the place, do not expect too much air-conditioning restaurant style of place when you are at a open air coffeeshop.

Pre-CNY food Dinner at Shan Ming Seafood Restaurant @ Johor Bahru

Chinese New Year is coming soon and I went to Malaysia with Rachel to visit her family on Saturday (2 February 2013) plus to give some Chinese New Year snack to them. (My parent ask me to bring over to them).

The travel from Singapore back to Malaysia on weekends is super crowded as most Singaporean went there for meals or shopping while Malaysian going back home to visit their families. It took quite a while before we can clear the custom and luckily Rachel’s mother is good enough to come fetch us in their car.

We stayed within the house till dinner time when Rachel’s father decided to go to a restaurant which they reserved for reunion dinner as a “pre-tasting” dinner there.

We got to the restaurant around 6 plus in the evening and the sun is still quite bright. The restaurant staff are quick to allocate a table for us and said that this will also be the table for the reunion day too. The restaurant is an non air-con Zi Char stall with quite a lot of tables for guest to eat there where there are a few fans blowing to keep the customer cool.

Dinner with Ex Infra Team

It have been a while since I eaten a dinner with only the ex-colleagues of the Infrastructure Team and on Thursday (22 November 2012), all of us decided to meet up for a short dinner break cum chatting together.

We decided to dine over at Kimly Live Seafood (金味活海鲜) which is located at Tradehub21 (I had another blog post on this: Click here to view) since they have never eaten at this place before. This is a Zi Char stall located inside a coffesshop and you can actually reach this place by private or public transport.

I had told them about this place while showing my previous photos of the dishes while eating with my family. Since all of us are working with different companies now (Some of us do not need to always stay back for OT), we are able to reached there quite early at around 6 plus – 7pm.

As the guys have not eaten any dishes over at this restaurant, I helped them to ordered some of the popular dishes which I think is nice and furthermore, the staff also recommended us to get a Lobster to be made into Lobster Salad.

The dishes are out quite fast except for the Crab dish as it needs more time to prepare and cook (Always needs to wait at least 15 minutes). Anyway, our dishes are as follows:

Zi Char Dinner with Ex-Colleagues at Keng Eng Kee Seafood (琼荣记海鲜)

After a long day at work on Tuesday (25 September 2012), I went over to Queenstown Mrt to meet up with some ex-swiber colleagues of mine or can say old infrastructure team mates for a dinner and short drinking session.  We decided to have burger dinner and cider for our dinner (One of my friend is not a drinker but these fruit beer should be suitable for him)

We took SBS bus 195 and alight at bus-stop opposite of Queenway shopping centre (Popular place for cheap sport shoes) and walk a short distance over to 119 Bukit Merah Lane 1 where we wish to eat the popular burger stall but to our disappointment, it is closed for the day (Or did not open on that Tuesday). In the end, we decided to eat over at this Zi Char stall over at Blk 124 as Mingyan (Also an ex-swiberian now) said the food there is consider not bad too.

Celebration of Father’s Birthday at Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant

It is my father’s birthday and we planned to celebrate his day with him as a family dinner at Ah Yat Seafood restaurant over at Turf City (Bukit Timah) on Friday (21 September 2012) right after our work. So after work, I tried to get back home as fast as I can and luckily for me, I am able to reach back home quite early.

My second sister is to drive my parents and me to the restaurant while the rest of the siblings will be going there by their own vehicles. There is a traffic jam almost at all location of Singapore as it is evening rush hours where all people are going back home so by the time we reached the location, it is around 7:45pm

The place is currently still under renovation and I can see that there are a lot of other restaurants opening soon, some of which seems to be quite interesting and I am sure that I will come and try out their restaurants after they start their business operation.
